Disney tips, Travel with kids, Florida must dos, To stay at Disney or not, money savers in Florida, Water parks
I have been to the Disney and the surrounding Orlando/Tampa area 11 times since 1995. I have been without kids, with kids and with extended family. I have lots of tips for many different scenarios, here are a few: If it is your first trip and you can swing it, stay in Disney. The value resorts are priced right and offer awesome pools to play in, beautiful landscape and grounds, and everything is CLEAN! You can skip a rental car and use Disney transportation (beware you will spend more on food so weigh the difference). The extra magic hours are great when it is a busy time of year and should you decide on a rental car, you park at the parks for free (that's a $10/day savings). To save on snacks, I always either shop at home and bring or take a trip to the grocery store on the day of arrival for my kids favorite snacks. Chex mix, peanut butter crackers, goldfish, etc and pack a little cooler with water bottles. In the Florida sun you can get very hot and dehydrated and a bottle of water will run you around $2.50-$3.00. If you are going with a crowd, consider a condo. My in laws have a time share so we have had the opportunity to stay in one as well. If you don't have that kind of connection, check online for people that are selling or renting their weeks. Orange Lake is AWESOME, you can have lots of fun just staying there and Sheraton Vistana and Cypress Point were both good alternatives when I stayed at them. They are nice if the kids need a day off from the parks or if you want a vacation but are a bit strapped and cannot afford to spend multiple days at the parks. Another plus with a condo is laundry, I hate having to do it when we get home so having a washer/dryer is great. You can also pack lighter. You can eat more meals at "home" and therefore save a few more dollars. If you are only in Florida for a day or two try doing one day at The Magic Kingdom. We did this one year when we had a day before a 4 day cruise out of Tampa. Our kids were 2 and 4. It was probably the nicest day we ever spent at Disney. We surprised them on the drive from Tampa and told them we were going. We explained that we would take our time and do all their favorites and whatever we missed we would see next time. They were absolute angels and the day was truly magical. One last tip for today, if you are going to the area and you are a baseball fan. Go see a game. We like to go see our Red Sox beat the Devil Rays. The prices are amazing and the field/stadium is great. It is on the small side so you are really close to the players! We paid around $60 for 4 tickets and that included a hot dog and drink for each person. We got to visit another major league ball park and there were more Red Sox fans than Devil Rays too, can't beat that for a top notch day. Hope these tips helped, I will have to stop for now and do part 2 another day. Happy Travel! Amie Varney Prudential Verani Realty 603-679-5654 x3920 Office 603-490-8799 Cell
